The timing of our Easyjet flights to/from Copenhagen airport for our 16-day holiday in Scandinavia meant we needed to stay overnight, certainly inbound, in the vicinity of the airport. Having already committed to non-cancellable flights at a good price several months in advance, I was happy to take the same approach for hotel bookings. Noting that the ‘on-site’ airport Hilton prices were not much more than the prices for ‘off-site’ hotels, I had no hesitation in booking here; looking on-line during the Hilton ‘winter sale’ certainly helped. The price paid for the inbound Wednesday night was 40% of the walk-up-on-the-day price On that Wednesday evening, it was nearly 10pm when we emerged from Customs. The hotel is an easy short walk with an airport luggage trolley, and we were soon in bed after an effortless check-in; I had notified the hotel that morning of our late arrival. The next morning: another easy walk to collect the hire-car. I had also booked a Saturday night at this hotel for the outbound journey; we were then able to make two trips to Copenhagen with the luggage left at the hotel. Whilst we had a basic room, the hotel’s comfort, the standard of the breakfast and the quality of the staff could not be faulted. On the outbound Saturday night, we had time for two visits to Copenhagen. For the Saturday afternoon we walked around the Citadel - the preserved pentagram-shaped fortress with good river views - and had a meal. On the Sunday morning, we took the waterbus guided tour - perhaps the best way to see Copenhagen if time is limited; the waterbus queues are likely to be shorter at Holmens Kirke than Nyhavn. A 24 hour Citypass transport ticket (80 kroner per person - from the airport station ticket office) was just the job. From the airport you can get into town by train or metro; we preferred the train: several per hour, quicker and more comfortable. This was everything that an ‘on-site’ airport hotel should be. Good luck in getting an attractive price - try to get breakfast included.
