Berkane is a market town in the upper northeast region of Morocco, 514km to the northeast of the capital city of Rabat. It is recognised as the Morocco’s citrus fruit capital, producing some of the freshest in the region. The town is often used as a launching base for treks into the largely unknown Taforalt and Beni Snassen Mountains, located to its south. There are several historical sites including the Grottes des Pigeons, where 80,000 year-old jewellery was discovered. Berkane hotels offer many budget-friendly choices.
