4.8/5Helen from United Kingdom stayed in a Classic room for 2 days in October.

Our first view of The Balmoral Hotel, from the train as we entered Waverley Station, was inspiring. It looked beautiful in the sunlight. From the moment we arrived at the front steps, where the doorman leapt to assist me with my suitcase, the staff were amazing. They were warm, friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Our suitcases were whisked away to be taken to our room. The hotel foyer was spacious, sophisticated yet welcoming with a beautiful, sparkling chandelier and a large, round, mirrored table which held miniature arrangements of white flowers. From the open gallery upstairs we could hear the gentle ripple of harp music which was very soothing after a long journey. At the reception desk we were told we'd been upgraded as all the rooms with a city view had been taken. We were personally escorted to our inside-view room, via the elegant wood and mirror panelled lift, by the gentleman who had seen to our booking at reception. The black, white and grey marble bathroom was luxurious, with huge, thick, white towels, a rain-shower and a well-lit make-up/hair drying area. Plus an amazing full-size black and white photograph of Sean Connery and Ursula Andress on the beach - very chic. And the massive Queen-size bed was the last word in comfort - we could have stayed in bed all day! When we eventually peered out of the window, we saw that every effort had been made to make the internal view as attractive as possible - large flat areas had been grassed over and a large tub of evergreen plants had a wooden path leading up to it. The attention to detail throughout the hotel was amazing and the polite and positive attitude of all the staff was the icing on the cake. When we left the hotel, it was a joy to see how centrally placed it is in the city. The railway station escalator was right next to the hotel, and Princes Street Gardens were next to that. Even the castle was only a few minutes steep climb away. This hotel has it all - position, luxury, comfort, convenience. We can't wait to go back there.

A wonderful hotel situated in the heart of Edinburgh. The staff were wonderful with nothing too much trouble night and day. The hotel was beautiful with every detail though of even down to the chamber maids taking their trolleys into rooms when cleaning so corridors are not full of cleaning trolleys in the morning. Also lovely to see beds still being turned down at night.!
